PEP-Web Tip of the Day

When you hover your mouse over a paragraph of the Standard Edition (SE) long enough, the corresponding text from Gesammelte Werke slides from the bottom of the PEP-Web window, and vice versa.

If the slide up window bothers you, you can turn it off by checking the box “Turn off Translations” in the slide-up. But if you’ve turned it off, how do you turn it back on? The option to turn off the translations only is effective for the current session (it uses a stored cookie in your browser). So the easiest way to turn it back on again is to close your browser (all open windows), and reopen it.

For the complete list of tips, see PEP-Web Tips on the PEP-Web support page.

The Nature of a Student's Tie to the Teacher: Reminiscences of Training and Friendship with John Bowlby

Victoria Hamilton

The author describes her initial encounter with John Bowlby and the development of their professional and personal friendship over the following twenty-two years. She describes the conflict between Bowlby, Milner, Tustin and others, and the Kleinian wing of the Tavistock Clinic as she experienced it during her training. A portrait of Bowlby emerges as a man who did not tolerate fools gladly, but who was open and receptive both intellectually and emotionally.
