Erotic Gift-Giving from Client to Therapist in Relational Psychotherapy

Benjamin Marr

The author describes his clinical work with a client over the past three and half years. He discusses the gifts he gave and what subsequent feelings arose in him due to the gift-giving and his dealing with the various factors of gift-giving within a therapy, including whether or not the therapist should accept the gift and the erotic and other implications of the gift for the therapist-client relationship. He gives examples of his client's gifts and details the impact that they have had on the therapy and its progression.
