The Ending

Gill Denne

dizzyingly high.

Far beneath

the future, past, compressed

lie frozen, blocked

breath locked

it's best

I don't look down

where body feels such

muscle-binding can't

necessity won't birth

and so I wait.

Imagining time's end

as minutes hours and days pass by me.

I stare at you,

you breathe,

in and out,

slow motion film,

in black and white,

You smile.

I see

a crack

another me

smiles back.

Goodbye, you say, go well.
