Still Being Hurt: The Vicious Cycle of Dissociative Disorders, Attachment, and Ongoing Abuse

Adah Sachs

This paper describes the relationship between dissociative disorders, ongoing abuse, and attachment as a vicious cycle, in which each of these three elements perpetuates the cycle. People who are thus caught up may find it extremely difficult to break free from a lifetime of abuse and to get better. It concludes that all three elements need to be addressed by the therapist in order to facilitate change.
