Emerging Views on Gender and Sexuality: Celebrating Twenty Years of New Perspectives on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Trans People

Kim Gelé, Susan McNamara, Sidney H. Phillips, R. Dennis Shelby, Gary Grossman, Susan C. Vaughan and Ralph Roughton

In honor of the eightieth birthday of Ralph Roughton, founding chair of the Committee on Issues of Homosexuality, and the twentieth anniversary of that committee, now the Committee on Gender and Sexuality, this essay shares the reflections of four psychoanalysts who have moved the understanding of psychoanalysis and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans people into the twenty-first century. In coordinating the contributors, Ethan Grumbach called to mind Roughton's plenary presentation at the 2001 American Psychoanalytic Association annual meeting, in which he discussed the evolving relationship between psychoanalysis and homosexuality.
