Review by:
Nancy Olson

My introduction to Marion Milner began when I was a graduate student in art history. While browsing one day, I came across a slim paperback, On Not Being Able to Paint. The title was catchy, so too the cover, in what might be called shocking pink. I didn't love the color, wasn't trying to paint at the time, and wasn't sure what sort of book this might be. Perhaps for these reasons it came home with me, not to be read until later when I became a candidate in analytic training. When at last I read On Not Being Able to Paint, I felt befriended. I searched for Milner's other books, then mostly out of print.
