Events in the Psychoanalytic World

Anna Freud Coming to America

America is being honored by a visit from Anna Freud. She was invited by the Psychological Department of Clark University of Worcester, Mass. to present a paper in April on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the University. Her father spoke there in 1910 at the 20th anniversary. Advantage is being taken of Miss Freud's visit to this country by the American Psychoanalytic Association to have her participate in the Detroit meetings. On Thursday morning at 9:30, April 27th, there will be a meeting of the Committee on Psychoanalysis of Children and Adolescents. The topic will be devoted to what has been learned about the dynamic motivations which cause analysts to become interested in the specialty of the psychoanalysis of children. This will be an informal discussion and Anna Freud will participate in the discussion. Although attendance is to be limited to those analysts particularly interested in children, there will be no objection to other analysts attending although it was felt that in view of the anticipated attendance that students should not be admitted. At 2 P.M. there will be a meeting at which Anna Freud will read a paper, the exact subject of which is not known to us at the time of publication of the Bulletin.

During the course of her stay here, Miss Freud will be in New York and will present a paper before the New York Psychoanalytic Society on April 17th entitled “The Structure and Treatment of a Certain Type of Male Homosexual.”

We are all looking forward to Anna Freud's visit and plan to make her welcome to these shores so these visits will not be infrequent.

U. S. Navy

With farsightedness arising out of war experiences, the U. S. Navy is seeking to make available for its psychiatrists recognized psychoanalytic training. With this view in mind Capt. George N. Raines and Commander Thomas A. Harris met with the Board of Professional Standards. They outlined their problem and needs.
