Report of the 28th International Psycho-Analytical Congress

Daniel Widlöcher

PRESIDENTIAL MESSAGE FROM PROF. SERGE LEBOVICI

One who has been honoured by one's colleagues by being elected President of the International Psycho-Analytical Association cannot help but feel the burden of one's responsibilities.

Obviously, one is well aware that one will be able to draw from the experience of one's predecessors. For myself, I know that Drs van der Leeuw and Montessori, and Drs Rangell and Gitelson, whose endeavours are well known to us, will not hesitate to help me with their valuable advice. My first objective, therefore, is to continue their work, following the same course, with the help of Professor Widlöcher.

The President of the I.P.A. also benefits from the assistance of his colleagues in the Executive Council, whom I intend to consult as often as will be necessary. They are aware, through their experience as psychoanalysts and their involvement in the Societies to which they belong, of the specific nature of local and regional problems, and I hope that they will involve me in their preoccupations.

I also intend to make use of the work carried out by the Regional Association and the Federations—the American Association, the European Federation and C.O.P.A.L.—to coordinate the international enterprises which should respect the autonomy of the societies affiliated to the I.P.A.
