Presidential Message

Joseph Sandler

From now on the IPA will be returning to the practice of publishing the Bulletin in various psychoanalytic journals. Arrangements have so far been made for journal publication in English, German and Spanish. Societies will also receive copies of the Bulletin, and for the time being the French version will be distributed to individual members. In addition to this, as part of the IPA's plan to improve the efficiency of its communications, a new format for the Newsletter will be introduced later this year. We can look forward to the development of an expanded, readable and interesting Newsletter that will be appearing in English, French, German and Spanish versions.

The Buenos Aires Congress has been an historic event, having been held for the first time in Latin America. We welcome Dr Horacio Etchegoyen as President-Elect. He will take office during the Amsterdam Congress in 1993, but before this will be engaged in the difficult task of familiarizing himself with the very complex organization of the IPA and with its current plans and problems. Fortunately he will have the help in the IPA Central Office in London of our Administrative Director, Valerie Tufnell, and her excellent staff, all of whom have been participating in the restructuring of administrative procedures, which should be complete by the time of the Amsterdam Congress.

Among other things the IPA Office has reorganized its computing system, and new computers as well as a very large database have been installed.
