Fepal (Psychoanalytic Federation of Latin America)
Report of the period 1988–1990:
At the beginning of 1989 FEPAL held a Scientific Meeting with the European Federation. Clinical presentations were discussed, leading to a better understanding of the way in which psychoanalysts from both areas actually work.
In December 1989 — the first regional meeting of FEPAL convened in Mexico City, taking as its theme: 'How do Portuguese-Spanish speaking psychoanalysts read FREUD, 50 years after his death?'
From 20–25 August 1990 the 18th Latin-American Psychoanalytic Congress took place in Rio de Janeiro. At this Congress we were pleased to welcome the President and Secretary of the IPA, Professor Joseph Sandler and Dr Jacqueline Amati Mehler.
During this period (1988–1990) we published, in collaboration with all the Latin American Societies, 'Um Seculo de FREUD'.
Activities since August 1990:
Various local, regional and general activities were undertaken and planned by the members of FEPAL, including:
—The XIII Brazilian Congress on Psychoanalysis, organized by the Brazilian Society for Psychoanalysis of São Paulo, from 30 May to 2 June 1991, on 'The theoretical-clinical dimension of psychoanalysis in Brazil. Imitation or creation'.
—The first Meeting on Psychoanalysis and Education, organized by the Peruvian Society, from 21–23 June 1991.
