Psychoanalysis and Cultural Psychology: A Review of The Culture of Education by Jerome Bruner. Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Press, 1996. xvi + 224 pp.

Review by:
Todd Essig, Ph.D.

Before anything else gets said, I want to note that this book, the latest from Jerome Bruner, is a good read. It is witty, smart, and humane, presenting theory and fact, illustration and evidence with the intellectual depth and grace characteristic of Bruner's work throughout his rich career. For those already familiar with his work this should come as no surprise. Nor should it be a surprise that his latest work, dedicated to the development of “cultural psychology,” holds out great promise for anyone who wants to understand mind, experience, and human action.
