My Media and My Inner World: A Natural History

Robert M. Young

This article is adapted from a keynote address given at the Opening Symposium of the Media and the Inner World network. In it, the author offers a series of reflections, associations and interpretations related to his personal experience of and relationship to different media during his lifetime. Charting the emotional resonances of this experience, the author draws on psychoanalysis as a means of articulating the significance of media and their relationship to the emotional and psychical dimensions of human nature.
