Interdisciplinary Education Committee Report

In the last year, all of the original members of the Interdisciplinary Education Committee (IEC) moved on to other things, so the committee is currently a “re-working” in progress consisting of Martine Aniel and myself, as Chair. Despite the loss (and while attempting to recruit new members), we're putting together a (not-yet-titled) program on “Evil” for February 2005 that we hope will complement current and future Independent Study Group offerings. Already-confirmed speakers include Carol Clover, a noted faculty member from the UC-Berkeley Rhetoric Department; Carol Bayley, a professional ethicist from Catholic Health West; and Mark Stafford, an analyst from the Après-Coup group in New York City.

At this time, I would like to acknowledge the creativity, hard work, and continuing support of the founding member of the IEC, Jeanne Wolff Bernstein, and previous Chair, Francisco González—along with the contributions of former members Erika Clowes, Eve Meltzer, Scott Newkirk, and Celeste Schneider. I would also like to thank Jessica Fisher and Cynthia Sailers for their participation and very useful suggestions.
