Ken Corbett, Ph.D.

My reading of L. M. Lothstein's “Pantyhose Fetishism and Self Cohesion: A Paraphilic Solution?” (1997) leads me to the following plea: It is time to distinguish gender from health.

It is time to stop confusing the gender cart with the health horse, confounding the relatively late development of gender identity with the health of psychic equilibrium. In distinguishing gender from health, I am not suggesting that they are unrelated or discrete, nor do I intend to suggest that some manner of complex simplicity portends between gender and health. Rather, I believe, as I have argued elsewhere (Corbett, 1996), that gender and health are knit together through a process of interimplication. However, I do wish to entertain the possible ontogenetic significance of the way in which certain features of health develop prior to the coalescence of gender identity.
