The prepsychotic cannot integrate with his ego his superego with its excessive narcissistic libido. The partial instinctual drives of a child with schizophrenic traits are not transformed and the attempts at sublimation are more like simple defence mechanisms. Reality has become a source for either absolute gratification or unbearable frustration.
