The author illustrates the observation that some persons treat other individuals as projections of their own unconscious trends. Case histories are discussed to illustrate this point. 'For example, a man may hate a woman and fear her because to him she represents a projection of his own poorly repressed trends which are hated and feared. From another viewpoint, such a man would react in this

way to a woman because she stimulates the femininity which he hates and fears.'
