'Some Aspects of the Dream in Psychosomatic Disease.': Herbert I. Kupper. Psychosomatic Medicine, 1947, Vol. IX, No. 5, pp. 310–319.

Sidney Tarachow

Two cases illustrating psychosomatic phenomena provoked by dreams were studied. Various conflictful situations led to powerful erotic and aggressive forces which in one case found expression through the vegetative system as oedema and in the other case through the cortex in epileptic convulsive seizures. The psychic energy released by the conflict situation initiates an altered physiological state. The symptoms in both cases were precipitated by dreams involved with characteristic conflict situations. Attacks could be re-created or newly provoked or avoided by means of hypnosis.
