Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association 3, 1955, No. 1: Edward D. Hoedemaker. 'The Therapeutic Process in the Treatment of Schizophrenia.'

This is the report of a very long analysis of a woman patient suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. The essential point which the author makes is that the analytic process results in attitudes and opinions of the analyst being incorporated into a new superego structure within the patient. The work of Rosen and Wexler is referred to with respect to this concept of the development of the superego in chronic schizophrenic patients. Several examples from the analytic material to illustrate the process at work are given.
