Dr. Denis Carroll, who died suddenly on 21 November, 1956, at the age of 55 years, gave early promise of a distinguished career. Educated at King's School, Chester, he proceeded to Trinity College, Cambridge, of which he was a mathematical scholar, and where he graduated with first-class honours in both parts of the Natural Science Tripos. Elected to the Michael Foster Studentship, he worked under Professor Barcroft and published a number of physiological researches. Turning to the study of medical psychology he entered the London Hospital (qualifying, M.R.C.S. and L.R.C.P.,
