Variations in Sexual Behaviour: By Frank S. Caprio. (London: Calder, 1957. Pp. 344. 30s.)

Review by:
B. B. Zeitlyn

This book is addressed to a wide public to enlighten all who in one way or another have contact with cases of sexual deviation.

It is hard to see, however, just how this purpose is achieved by the information provided, for example on auto-fellatio—or by the many case-histories which largely fill the book. In these, all types of perverse behaviour are recounted with descriptive detail—followed by briefer psychodynamic discussions. But neither the psychopathological equations that are made here, nor statements of the type: 'Many homosexuals have little or no conception of the psychodynamic factors underlying their homosexuality', would seem to do justice to the complexities of the subject.
