Whereas the study of hallucinations is generally concerned with psychotic and organic types only, the author deals with hallucinatory phenomena related to psychic conflicts. His experience is derived from 69 neurotic patients. The manifold content of the hallucinations is distinguished from their formal characteristics (sensory field, facilitation through outer circumstances, etc.); their functions are determined according to metapsychological criteria.
