The New Editor for North America

David Tuckett

I am delighted to be able to announce that Dr Glen Gabbard (Topeka, Kansas) has been appointed the International Journal's new Editor for North America. Dr Gabbard will begin his term on 1 August 2001 when he will take over from Dr Arnold M. Cooper.

Dr Glen Gabbard is a graduate of Rush Medical College in Chicago and the Topeka Institute for Psychoanalysis. He has been a training and supervising analyst in the Topeka Institute since 1989 and director since 1996. He is currently the Bessie Walker Callaway Distinguished Professor of Psychoanalysis and Education in the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry at the Menninger Clinic, one of the few endowed chairs in psychoanalysis in the world. Dr Gabbard is Co-chair of the Program Committee of the American Psychoanalytic Association and served as North American Co-chair for the IPA Training Analysts' Pre-Congress in Santiago in 1999. Since 1994 he has held the position of Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association where he has edited the JAPA Review of Books. In addition he is an Associate Editor of the American Journal of Psychiatry and has served on the editorial boards of Psychoanalytic Quarterly, Psychoanalytic Inquiry, Psychoanalytic Dialogues and the International Journal of Psychoanalysis, where he has been the Film Review Editor since 1997.

Dr Gabbard has authored or edited fourteen books, including Love and Hate in the Analytic Setting (1996), Psychodynamic Psychiatry in Clinical Practice (1990, now in its third edition), Boundaries and Boundary Violations in Psychoanalysis (with Eva Lester, 1995), and Psychiatry and the Cinema (with Krin Gabbard, 1989).
