Review by:
Basilio Bonfiglio

Translated from Italian by Andrea Sabbadini

This book's title, The Analyst's Emotional Involvement, introduces the readers directly to the central theme of most of the papers therein. It indicates how this text belongs to the vast debate on a contemporary redefinition of the psychoanalyst's place in the consulting room, his/her function in relation to the patient and the development of the analytic process. The book's sub-title, Sandor Ferenczi's Contribution to Contemporary Psychoanalysis, on the other hand, clarifies how such research and reflection are conducted on the basis of a re-evaluation on the thought of a psychoanalytic master, Sandor Ferenczi. The volume, in fact, consists of a collection of the proceedings of an International Congress, which took place in Madrid in March 1998, and which was dedicated to his work.
