New internet method for paper and review submission

Glen O. Gabbard and Paul Williams

The Editors-in-Chief announce the implementation of a web-based editorial management system for the International Journal of Psychoanalysis (IJP). This new development is designed to improve communication between IJP and its authors, reviewers and subscribers around the world. Beginning immediately, authors will be able to submit their papers online directly from the IJP website ( The new online system will run alongside the current email and postal mail submission methods. Authors may choose which system to use, although the preferred method is online. The system, which is easy to use, has been adopted successfully by many journals across a variety of disciplines. Indeed, in moving to this method of handling papers, IJP is making an effort to keep up with the latest technology in the field.

What are the advantages to authors and publishers of this web-based submission system? Authors benefit from a faster turnaround time from submission of paper to editorial decision, and can submit a paper from anywhere in the world, in real time, from any computer and any operating system, as long as they have a connection to the internet. Assignment of papers to editors and reviewers, transmission of reviews and submissions of revisions occur at one dedicated site on the web. Authors can log on to the system at any time to track the progress of their paper through the editorial process. Reviewers can access the system from anywhere in the world in order to view or download a paper.
