Since 1920, following its foundation by Ernest Jones under the direction of Sigmund Freud, the International Journal of Psychoanalysis (incorporating the International Review of Psychoanalysis) has been the leading place for psychoanalysts to read and develop ideas across the globe.

It will continue unchanged in this form. Now, however, and with pleasure I announce a new and important development enabled by modern technology. As from January 2014, anyone who logs on to http://www.ijp-open.org will be able to participate directly and in real time in creating a new publication - to be called IJP Open.

IJP Open will be the launch pad leading to the selection, development and final publication of papers in the International Journal of Psychoanalysis.

For the first time in the history of psychoanalytic journals, we are providing readers with the opportunity to view the papers submitted to the International Journal of Psychoanalysis before peer review, and the opportunity to participate in a peer discussion of those papers, engaging with and developing critical thought.

This means that from January authors submitting to the International Journal of Psychoanalysis will have their work read by their colleagues almost immediately and will therefore have the opportunity to rapidly engage with a large community of peers and benefit from their ideas.
