Heinz Kohut and the Homosexualities: A Brief Communication

Franco Paparo, M.D., Ph.D.

This article addresses specific autobiographical issues pertaining to Heinz Kohut, his sense of heroism, and his attitudes toward homosexuality. The author draws, in part, from the work of Charles Strozier in exploring the relationship between heroism and homosexuality in the work of Kohut. The article concludes that a relationship exists between Kohut's theories and his sexual and love experiences and that Kohut was a psychoanalytic pioneer in his acceptance of the “homosexualities.”
