Arnold Zweig

23. iv. 34

Dear Father Freud,

The eleven are now here, and already I see a twelfth on the horizon to bring the number up to that of the apostles and the months of the year. I was delighted, as is and was my wont—a quiet deep delight. And I was happier than I have been since last March. The personal bond between you and me has, as it were, acquired concrete form through this splendid gift: the foundation stone of a library as well as of life. Please tell Anna once again how much this kindness means to me. I shall soon appear in person to thank her myself. I made straight for the Leonardo essay1 and I am now deep in it. The splendid large print helps to save my eyes. But this little essay is as exciting as a short story and shows such finesse and care in its interpretation that one can only approve and nod one's head in admiration.
