Arnold Zweig

Carmel
30 April 1935

Dear Father Freud,

Once again we have reached the point in the year when we remember the day of your birth and according to tradition congratulate you on it. I would like to give you all kinds of things: good weather, joy in your garden, and the feeling of having achieved much and of having rescued the name of Freud from the oblivion into which we shall all pass, some sooner, some later, but you never-if the word has any meaning. And now I must already say goodbye to you, for my eye compels me to be brief; but on the evening of the 6th I shall raise a glass of wine in a toast to the great star of Venus which is now in the ascendant in the Western sky, and I shall drink to you and yours.

Ever yours
Arnold Zweig

My wife and my whole family join me in my gratitude.
