Review by:
Didier Anzieu

Daniel Lagache (1903–1972) became President of the French Psychoanalytical Association when it was founded in 1964; he played a prominent part in the recognition of this Association as a member of the International Psychoanalytical Association during the Amsterdam Congress in 1965. Anna Freud, Paula Heimann, Enid and Michael Balint, René Spitz, Heinz Kohut, Albert Solnit, Max Schur, John Bowlby and others were friends of his. Before he died, he had asked Eva Rosenblum, a psychoanalyst of the French Psychoanalytical Association, to look through, gather and publish his scientific works in the 'Psychoanalytical Collection' series he had created, and which, today, Jean Laplanche is at the head of. This task is now at an end. The Presses Universitaires de France have published the six volumes of his works in Paris between 1977 and 1986. The whole is a collection of some hundred articles (some of them left handwritten, some of them, till now, scattered in journals) and Lagache's first and last books: his medical thesis which has been out of print for so long: Les hallucinations verbales et la parole and an uncompleted manuscript: La folle de logis. Structure, processus at produits fantasmatiques which forms, quantitively as well as qualitatively, the main part of the last volume of his works.

Three works do not appear in this set; they were published separately by the Presses Universitaires de France: La jalousie amoureuse (2 Volumes), L'unite de la psychologie; psychologie experimentale et clinique and La psychanalyse, a short but good popular treatise.
