Tom Hayley

In 1920, under the direction of Freud, Ernest Jones founded in Vienna, the International Journal of Psycho-Analysis. The purpose was to communicate the findings of psychoanalysis to the English-speaking world, particularly the USA. The difficulties of translating and printing in Vienna led to the Journal being transferred to London in 1924. By this historical circumstance the Institute of Psycho-Analysis, London, became the owners of the International Journal. We feel a deep responsibility to fulfil this trust and extend it towards the international psychoanalytical community of the World. Examples of this are the summaries of papers in the official languages of the IPA, the payment of the costs of translating papers through the procedures of the European and Latin American Editorial Boards, the founding of the Libro Anual de Psicoanálisis, containing an annual selection of papers from our journals, translated into Spanish with Portuguese summaries, and now a new communication in reverse. This is being undertaken by the Latin American Editorial Board on its own initiative, namely a Year Book in English of an annual selection of Spanish and Portuguese papers published in the journals of those languages. We wish the project the best of good fortune.

The circulation of the Review continues to grow and may surpass that of the Journal. Our policy is to make the journals available to psychoanalysts as near cost price as possible, by means of the block subscription.
