The Kleinian Setting for Child Analysis

Susanna Isaacs Elmhirst

SUMMARY

This paper gives an account of the current use of the child setting originally developed by Melanie Klein. Inevitably a personal view is presented, with clinical illustrations from the author's work with children. But it is hoped and believed that the setting and its use as described

are in essence those favoured by British Kleinian child psychoanalysts.

Analysis of adolescents is not within the scope of this communication.
