PEP-Web Tip of the Day

When you hover your mouse over a paragraph of the Standard Edition (SE) long enough, the corresponding text from Gesammelte Werke slides from the bottom of the PEP-Web window, and vice versa.

If the slide up window bothers you, you can turn it off by checking the box “Turn off Translations” in the slide-up. But if you’ve turned it off, how do you turn it back on? The option to turn off the translations only is effective for the current session (it uses a stored cookie in your browser). So the easiest way to turn it back on again is to close your browser (all open windows), and reopen it.

Relational Psychoanalysis: The Emergence of a Tradition, by Stephen A. Mitchell and Lewis Aaron, 1999, 536 pp., $45.

Review by:
Hae A. Kim, M.D.

Since Greenberg and Mitchell started to use the term “Relational” in 1983 it has become ever more popular among the group called contemporary psychoanalysts. Mitchell wrote his first book “Relational Concepts in Psychoanalysis: an Integration” in 1988 and it has evolved into many volumes culminating in this volume of seventeen papers authored by nineteen people. He seems to be quite proud of what he has nurtured introducing and reviewing each one of these papers and applauding authors with warm greetings, even giving each author the courtesy of “afterword” to update their papers or supplement them with other theoretical developments.

That this book came out in paperback signifies there are many demands on this volume. I can see the appeal of this book for three groups.
