This volume contains fifteen chapters by various authors. Seven chapters are modified from papers which have been published in the Journal of Analytical Psychology and may be familiar to Jungian readers. Most of the contributors are active in the Child Analytic Training of the Society of Analytical Psychology in London but there are three contributions from overseas, reflecting the lively activity of the International Workshop on Analytical Psychology in Childhood and Adolescence and there are many acknowledgements of what this work owes to other sources, notably psycho-analytic.

The Editors' Preface states: “The aims of-this book are twofold: to pay tribute to Michael Fordham's creative and pioneering work in the field of Jungian child psychotherapy, and to introduce the reader to Jungian child psychotherapy, a relatively new development in analytical psychology.” The link between these two aims lies in the major part Fordham's work has played in this development. Much of the book gives a picture of the background and present activity of the Child Analytical Training of the Society of Analytical Psychology in London, based mainly on that work.

Jung wrote relatively little about children and sometimes tended to see them as passive receptacles of the parental psychology, so that when children show signs of disturbance analysis of the parents would be indicated.
