Summary: Abraham's illness and the battles for succession after his death. After Abraham's death at the end of 1925, he had to be replaced both as president of the IPA and as head of the Berlin Psychoanalytic Association. Details can be culled from published and unpublished letters. The former office was claimed successfully by Eitingon. There was some struggle about the latter office that ended when Eitingon claimed it as well. He withdrew his candidacy and established an executive board by his grace (Simmel-Radó-Horney). The losers of this whole realignment were Ferenczi (who had hoped to succeed Abraham in all his functions), Boehm and Müller-Braunschweig. It can be more or less safely assumed that they all continued to suffer from this wound.
