The Psychoanalysis/Neuroscience Study Groups of the Swedish Psychoanalytic Society

Iréne Matthis, Daniela Montelatici-Prawitz, Magnus Kihlbom and Lennart Bryngelson

During 2001 and the first half of 2002 Clinical Studies in NeuroPsychoanalysis, by Karen Kaplan-Solms and Mark Solms, was an inspiring and rich object of study for the Body-Mind Study Group, chaired by Iréne Matthis. In the end of Spring 2002 we also read and discussed Leslie Rogers: Sexing the Brain, in order to prepare ourselves for the III International NeuroPsychoanalysis Congress on Sexuality and Gender that took place at the University of Stockholm, in the end of the Summer 2002. Many persons in the group were actively involved in organizing the Double Conference, where the International Psychoanalytic Association's Committee on Women and Psychoanalysis (COWAP) organized the first two days (August 30-31) and the International Neuro-Psychoanalysis Society the following three days (September 1-3). During the fall of 2002 semiotics will be on the agenda, related to a cognitive science perspective.

The group on neurobiological development in infancy, chaired by Magnus Kihlbom, was terminated in March 2002. The last item discussed was an informative paper by Danya Glaser (2000): Child Abuse and Neglect and the Brain—A Review (J. Child Psychol. Psychiat. 41/1: 97-116).

The group on the Philosophy of Psychology, led by Prof. Lars-Göran Johansson of the University of Uppsala, after having discussed papers by Donald Davidson, started working on Philosophy of Mind by Jaegwon Kim.

The psychoanalytical psychosomatic (PAPS) group, chaired by Iréne Matthis, continues to study the theoretical and clinical work from the “Centro de Consulta Medica Weizsaecker” directed by Luis Chiozza in Buenos Aires.
