Southern Brazilian Chapter

Edited by:

Maria Sonia Goergen

The Southern Brazilian Chapter, located in Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, started our year of 2006 in March (as we are an International Society it may be interesting to remind other chapters that summer holidays in Brazil are in January/February). This first and very successful meeting attracted quite a few new people interested in neuropsychoanalysis. Maria Sonia Goergen, who has been able to attend nearly all the New York Lectures at the Arnold Pfeffer Center during 2005, presented “News from the Lectures—NYC.”

In June, following the NYC event celebrating Freud's 150th birthday, there was another important meeting on this same theme in Porto Alegre. Also, we now had a lot of new people attending, interested in building bridges between the fields. There were two round-table discussions, coordinated by Maria Sonia Goergen:

1)   “Psychoanalysis and Neurosciences—Bridges under Construction.”

Norma Escosteguy, M.D., psychiatrist.

Nazur Vasconcelos, M.D., psychoanalyst.

Oswaldo Estrela Anselmi, M.D., neuroradiologist.

2)   “The Interaction Is Possible—Clinical Illustration.”

Ana Rosa Trachtemberg, MD, psychoanalyst, President of the Brazilian Psychoanalytic Society of Porto Alegre (SBPdePA)

Mayra Lorenzoni, psychologist, psychoanalyst, coordinator of the Nucleus of Infancy and Adolescence of SBPdePA.

Cleonice Bosa, Ph.D., psychologist, Consultant in Developmental Psychology at Psychology Faculty— UFRGS.
