Gutheil attempts to systematize Stekel's views on the problem of criminality in the neuroses. Criminal impulses are regarded as a special phylogenetic precipitate which in the course of development go through the same viccissitudes as do other instincts. There is an abundance of descriptive clinical material presented in the characteristic Stekelian manner.
