In the analysis of patients with borderline neuroses there is a re-enactment in the transference of intense wishes to be cared for, loved, and nursed which have remained unsatisfied from childrhood. The analyst must recognize these wishes and be ready to work with and initially supply them so that the transference phenomenon can develop. However, in this group there were great difficulties in the resolution of the transference, greater than in the neurotic patient.
