Review by:
William G. Niederland

This lengthy study of emotional experience and organization of personality is an account not only of the psychological aspects of emotion but also of the historical development of existing theories, physiological manifestations, neuroanatomical pathways, cerebral functions, and somatic changes involved in 'emotional experience, emotional expression, and emotional action'. Written by a professor of psychology at Loyola University who possesses an expert knowledge of academic psychology and related sciences, the book ranges far and wide in the fields of philosophy, psychology, physiology, neurology, and theology. There is a comprehensive survey of pertinent data from the works of philosophers from Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas to Dewey and Sartre, of psychologists from Titchener and Wundt to William James, MacDougall, and the behaviorists.
