This book consists of five essays on the broad theme of art and psychoanalysis. Two of the articles were originally published in English: Death and the Mid-Life Crisis by Elliott Jacques which appeared in the International Journal of Psycho-Analysis (Vol. XLVI, pp. 502-514); and The Jocasta Complex, Mothering and Genius by Matthew Besdine, which appeared in Psychoanalytic Review (Vol. LV, pp. 259-277).
