Adolescent Psychiatry. VI, 1978: Overview of the Borderline Syndrome in Adolescence. Allan Z. Schwartzberg. Pp. 286-297.

Marianne Makman

This short, rich chapter offers an excellent review of the history of the development of the concept of the borderline syndrome. It presents an extraordinarily clear restatement of the theoretical writings (e.g., Mahler, Kernberg, Masterson) most closely associated with this concept. Together with its carefully selected bibliography, it comprises a mini-course for those interested in understanding this syndrome.
