A Note From the Editors: The Editors

Neil Altman, Ph.D. and Jody Messler Davies, Ph.D.

As Psychoanalytic Dialogues begins the second half of its second decade of publication, we have been reflecting on the current status and future direction of the journal and of the contemporary psychoanalytic project in general. Relational Psychoanalysis has been attracting a great deal of attention throughout the world. The membership of the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis is now well over 1000 members, with a wide and growing range of countries represented.

The recent, June 2005 conference of the IARPP in Rome attracted over 500 participants from more than 20 different countries. Local chapters of IARPP have begun to take shape in centers around the world. At the same time, we have been pleased to see a sizeable jump in the number of articles submitted to Psychoanalytic Dialogues from outside the United States. Having analysts from diverse psychoanalytic cultures around the world contributing to the relational conversation promises to enrich the dialogue going on in the pages of our journal, at our conferences and elsewhere. It seems clear that relational psychoanalysis has come of age and in the spirit of sustaining this mounting excitement and facilitating an ever growing reach the editors of the journal have voted to officially change its name to: Psychoanalytic Dialogues: The International Journal of Relational Perspectives.

These changes, we felt, required a changing editorial structure as well. We are, therefore, thrilled to announce that our Executive Editor Anthony Bass, and Contributing Editors Steven Cooper and Stephen Seligman will join us as full Editors in Chief of the journal. Drs. Bass, Cooper and Seligman have distinguished themselves as innovative authors and major contributors to the relational perspective. At this same time, Emmanuel Berman, also a major contributor tothe relational position, will become Chief International Editor. Adding two new editors from outside of New York and a chief international editor to oversee manuscript solicitation and development overseas will contribute to our expanding geographical breadth.
