Epilogue: Psychoanalysis in Spain

Susana I. Martinez, Ph.D.

The writers herein have described their journeys to becoming the psychoanalysts they are today and how they think of psychoanalysis theoretically and clinically in the context of the country they live in: Spain. In doing so, they all make plain their commitment to articulating a psychoanalytic theory that better addresses the needs of their patients, as well as their own subjective experience as psychoanalysts. This is a group of analysts who rejects dogma, is open to diverse ways of thinking in the service of their patients, and has made important contributions to expanding psychoanalytic theory and practice in Spain. If this great group of analysts is representative of the state of psychoanalysis in Spain, then it is safe to say that psychoanalysis lives well and prospers in that country.
