Siege: Marwan and Sahar, Four Years After the 2009 Gaza War

Elsa First, M.A., LP

This article is a follow-up to a previously written article that describes problems of resilience in children under siege. At that time, I was trying to prepare myself for the challenges of visiting Gaza and, as part of this preparation, I conducted interviews by Skype with children in Gaza during the summer of 2008. Unfortunately, we were not allowed into Gaza, but we were able to communicate from Israel. This article forms the core of my reflections on the first and follow-up interviews, in full, four years later, of two adolescents who live in Gaza. Siege can be considered as a threat, not only to survival, but also to the experience of ordinary life.
