Tip: To see translations of Freud SE or GW…

PEP-Web Tip of the Day

When you hover your mouse over a paragraph of the Standard Edition (SE) long enough, the corresponding text from Gesammelte Werke slides from the bottom of the PEP-Web window, and vice versa.

If the slide up window bothers you, you can turn it off by checking the box “Turn off Translations” in the slide-up. But if you’ve turned it off, how do you turn it back on? The option to turn off the translations only is effective for the current session (it uses a stored cookie in your browser). So the easiest way to turn it back on again is to close your browser (all open windows), and reopen it.

For the complete list of tips, see PEP-Web Tips on the PEP-Web support page.

On Ferenczi: A Response — from Elasticity to the Confusion of Tongues and the Technical Dimensions of Ferenczi's Approach

B. William Brennan, THM, M.A., LHMC

“There is a murmur, a ventriloquy, rising from the tomb in which he or she or someone else, either a contemporary or an ancestor, was buried alive, sequestered, with their desires cut out, deprived of both life and death; and above all, something has been left unsettled … The absent spirits arrive not so much through invocation as through a convoking summons. For them to rap, for them to want to rap, the spirits need to understand that their absence has always been a presence in the form of unrecognized knowledge, a nescience.”

—Mária Török, “Theoretra: An Alternative to Theory.”

The Ferenczi Issue

When the Ferenczi issue of Psychoanalytic Perspectives arrived, I was, in a word, enthralled.
