Encantadas—The Enchanted Ones

Gottfried Maria Heuer, PhD

London, with Dreamcat purring curled up upon my lap.

Do white ravens sing

out there on the edge

of the fragile world?

Listen, listen closely,

then you hear the melody,

like the song of the blue sea,

as its waves kiss the black sands,

leaving snow-white foam

where the iguanas roam.

Yellow-orange Sally Lightfoot crabs

keep flitting over black rocks,

as majestic tortoises

are basking in a puddle

high up in the mountains,

lost in equatorial mists.

There is no death in paradise,

just the eternal change,

as on the mornings as we rise

from the deep of sleep and dreams,

only to return again,

in the darkness of the night:

every day a little death.
