Introduction to “The Minus Side”

Clemens Loew, PhD

From his first drink at the bar, it's hard not to think of the psychosexual mayhem soon to come. Indeed, Xavier Trevino, in this compelling memoir, helps us to experience his raw struggle with love, loss, and regret—often tinged with drugs. We are compelled by the author's honest reflections of his past to understand that his own personal needs governed his tortured love relationship in the shadow of his addiction to heroin. We can't help but admire Trevino's self-exploration because of the honesty with which he writes. In many ways, he has experienced life on the minus side, but his self-realizations promise a true shift to the positive.
