Comparison of Vignette-Based Ratings of Satisfaction with Ta and Non-Ta Treatment by Training Analysts and by Nontraining Analysts

Joseph Schachter, M.D., Ph.D., Bernard Gorman, Friedemann Pfäfflin and Horst Kächele

This study provides data about vignettes of individual interviews with 13 American Psychoanalytic Association psychoanalyst patients who had both a training analyst (TA) and a nontraining analyst (non-TA). Individual ratings of treatment satisfaction based on interview vignettes by each of two senior psychoanalysts corroborated questionnaire ratings of satisfaction indicating that in this study, the TA was reported to be less satisfactory than the non-TA for these 13 analysts; the difference was especially marked when the TA preceded the non-TA.
