Review by:
Charles A. Peterson

Michael Horowitz

Robert Langs and 43 distinguished clinicians and scholars have affixed their editorial seal of approval to 40 papers in this thick biennial, now the official house organ of The Society for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, a major forum for the ideas of Robert Langs. Twenty-three are original contributions, 16 are invited discussions, and one is an author's response to a previously published discussion in IJPP. The papers are roughly grouped into: “Issues of Technique” and “Clinical and Other Problems.” The topics are vital, relevant, and stimulating. The contributors include many analytic household names, set in an ambience of creative dissent which examines and challenges basic assumptions. Dr. Dogma was not invited to contribute to this volume. From this rich selection only our favorites can be mentioned here.

Meissner notes that psychoanalytic psychotherapists must overcome a long-standing aversion to traditional Kraepelinian taxonomies.
