Certain Severe Disturbances of Ego Development in Childhood

Annemarie P. Weil, M.D.

SUMMARY

The paper has dealt with certain severe disturbances of ePo development in childhood. Characteristics of such children have been described and assumptions about their future development have been made. A case was reported to demonstrate such a development and one possible outcome. It would seem that this group of severely ego-disturbed children represents the pool from which some acute and subacute psychoses—and a variety of less dramatic, not regressive, narcissistic disturbances—emerge.
